Week 4: Diving in the technology Sea

While we were diving in the technology sea this week, we discovered a lot of pearls and enjoyed wondrful reaf. the most interesting in the course is that we practice our language in new settings. New links and tools we are expereincing enhanced our language knowlege. Using reading, writing, and vocabulary in an integrated way paved the way to create new activities or tasks which encourage our students to practce the language in authentic situations. Authentic situations give the laguage usage powerful and rational for progressing.

This week we made one step forward to our project. We began to formulate the problem and look for answers.

Surperisengly, now I had so many tools that I couldn't find enough time to explore them.

Articles about writing and reading were very helpful to give us ideas and new concepts.

  1. Hi Samira!

As we are diving in the technology sea, we go deeper into reflection. Week four has been very demanding for me but it has lead us to a deeper understanding of the problems we face and of the possible solutions. I see your point. Authentic situations is extremely powerful for language use and learning.

  2. Hi Roxana,
Thank you for reading my blog. In addition to deeper understanding of the problems and find suitable answers to them, we could diagnose the problems and suggested more than options.

    Hello Samira,

Thank you for sharing your blog.
It seems to me to be very interesting your point of view when you say:

“…to create new activities or tasks which encourage our students to practice the language in authentic situations.”

Encouraging students is not an easy task. It involves attitudes, environment, goals and objectives. When practicing the language in authentic situations students have great possibilities o improve their skills. Asking them to retrieve authentic situations from the professional work they will perform after graduating from university or technical schools will attract them a little bit more than the daily language, as they may perceive that managing the English language may promote them to better positions. I have tried to make my students understand this fact —true in the city where I teach, Ciudad Juarez, Mexico— and it seems to begin throwing positive results.

    Kind regards,
    Fernando

    1. Hi Fernando,

Thank you for visiting my blog. I think all of us as EFL teachers have the same concern. This course is a great chance to exchange experience about dealing with teaching issues we all tackle in our classes.

      Regards,

      Samira

  4. Hi Samira, as F. Baiza says:" encouraging students is not an easy task", first of all we need to encourage ourselves, we have to come up with new ideas in order to make the teaching task meaningful, and I agree with you as for creating new situations to make the students to practice the language in authentic situations.
