Week 5 : Pearls from Technology Sea

Sharm-Elshaik- Egypt

This week as usual was rich, and fascinating. A lot of new perspectives: Rubrics, Web quest, and PBL. Interactive dialogues between the participants, visualized the concepts of using technology tools classrooms. Exchanging ideas and experience convinced us more with using technology in solving problems and difficulties we face in teaching language skills. I discovered that many teachers face the same problems I face. Moreover, I find out that I am luckier than many teachers around the world. The most rewarding thing was my colleagues' comments on my Rubrics and technology tools. I found their comments not only very reasonable but also practical as well. I think it is high time to refer to Janine, the maestro of the course, who conducts the discussion in a very constructive way wrapping in a very pleasant phrases.
Using rubrics helps me to be fair. Fairness is one of the most worrying issues for the teachers. In addition, professionalism will be handy by using rubrics in all tasks in the classroom.
Applying PBL needs more time to be more familiar to me and to my students.

  1. Hello Samira
    Good Evening

Here I agree with you that definitely this week was a great learning experience. New things like PBL and Rubrics came in our thinking zone.

Moreover as you have said fairness while assessing our students is a crucial issue. And we are human beings......

But with the help of rubrics we can be much more objective in our assessment.

    Great thoughts!
    Have great a weekend!

  3. Hello Samira! Your blog looks great, and I like this photo of fish very much.
Yes, indeed, using rubrics is a great way to be fair when grading. It helps teachers be transparent, because both we and our students must know what they have to do to score a particular grade, or on what criteria those grades are based.
I agree with you that Janine is doing a great job, and guiding us through this course skillfully, no doubt we have a lot to learn from her.
As you suggest, we all face similar problems in teaching, and therefore this is a great opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences, and thereby improve our teaching skills.
Have a great weekend, regards from Bosnia,

  5. Hello Samira

I too agree with you that this week was quite an interesting and informative one.

Though we did have PBLs and Rubrics in our teaching in a very minute way, I feel that we could use these in a very productive way in our language teaching.

    Cheers!
